Here is the CSSR PTO Playground Project story...

Thank you all for making the playground dream become a reality!
Make sure to check out the pictorial below!

We hope everyone has had the chance to see the fabulous new playground that is now located behind SRE! Our elementary aged children are having lots of fun trying out all the new additions!   All of the equipment was carefully chosen to accommodate a wide range of elementary skill levels and age ranges.  There is everything from good old-fashioned swings to the amazing Space Net climber! There are also many pieces of equipment that children with physical limitations can interact with and play on. When all was said and done, the total cost of the playground was just over $111,000!

We are the first to say that the CSSR PTO Executive Board was only the facilitator of this amazing project.  It was truly and only because of the overwhelming and warmhearted support from the parents, the children, our educators, the community, and businesses that serve our wonderful town that generated the financial resource of cash and in-kind donations to allow this playground to come to fruition for all of our children!

It started off with Country Bank, who stepped up with the first $5,000! That was quickly followed by another $5,000 from a CVS Corporation Community Grants Award!  The children emptied their piggy banks (and maybe even their parents pockets a little) to raise $3,084 in the Pennies 4 Playground Campaign! The employees of our local CVS Pharmacy were so excited about the project, that on their own time they coordinated Bake Sales and Book Sales and such raising $1,335! The Town voters even approved $38,136 in Community Preservation Act Funding for the project, and then the donations just kept steadily flowing in until we were able to install the new equipment!

The community spirit and generosity in this wonderful town of Belchertown is why this goal was accomplished so quickly and it is what propelled and fueled our drive and spirit throughout the course of the project. We sincerely thank the many, many of you that made contributions to this project by purchasing Belchertownopoly Games, Cash Calendar Raffle tickets, and Nameplates for the new sign that will soon be installed at the playground and for participating in the Pennies 4 Playground, the Ink and Cell Phone Recycling, and for making cash donations! We would also like to note the following people and businesses who all donated generously to help let the children play.  Please try and show your support to them as they have freely offered their services and/or financial support to benefit all our elementary aged children now and for the next 30-40 years!

AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO SO FREELY GAVE UP THEIR WEEKEND TO SWEAT AND TOIL IN 100 DEGREE HEAT TO GET THIS PLAYGROUND INSTALLED FOR THE CHILDREN!!!
